These days in lockdown make me even more aware of my food intake. As I can’t exercise like I normally do (group classes and the gym four to five times a week), I need to take that into consideration regarding what and how much I eat. Gaining weight is simply not an option. I have been quite overweight in the past and I never want to go back to that time. I cost me a lot of effort to get where I am today (and thank god have been for multiple years already). That is a helpful reminder for me: I don’t want to go through such a battle again. Nevertheless, I do like to enjoy food and I always look for ways to tweak my favorite snacks into healthier versions.
For the love of waffles
Here we have a waffle with whipped cream and strawberries. A great combo, if you ask me. Now, this is not per se healthy I would say. But we can improve it. First of all, I make my waffles without sugar. I think sugar is often added when it’s not needed. I don’t miss the taste, especially when you put strawberries on top. The whipped cream here I made from quark and a tiny bit of cream cheese. Very tasty too and full of protein. The recipe for the waffle itself, this makes you one big waffle or two slim ones:
- 1 banana
- 1 egg
- 50 grams of flower
- teaspoon of cinnamon
Mix it really well and just poor it on a waffle iron, that you greased first! I like to grease mine with coconut oil if I’m making waffles, those tastes go really well together.
Do you ever tweak your snacks into a healthier version? If yes, what and how? And how do you make sure to stay in shape these days?
